Optical Degrees |
Unit of angular deflection of the laser off of a mirror. 1 mechanical degree of rotation of a scanner shaft equates to 2 optical degrees due to the law of reflection. |

Region of Interest |

Multiple Regions of Interest |
ScanField |
Area (typically a rectangle) that is scanned by a scanner. The ScanField is often used to describe the Regions of Interest (ROI) and is measured in optical degrees. |

MDF |
Stands for ‘Machine Data File’ which is a MATLAB .m file containing the hardware configuration of your microscope in a human readable format. |
Objective Resolution |
A ratio of the linear distance (in microns) between pixel positions after stage movement divided by the optical degrees for movement based off the ScanField.

Power Box |
A control in ScanImage that allows beam power to be modulated differently within specified regions of a ScanField. Power boxes can be configured to activated/deactivated at a certain frame to facilitate time varying experiments. |
